Duke Preparing To Host Improved North Carolina
|
|
There
are few rivalries in all of sports that are more intense than the
Duke-North Carolina in college basketball. On Wednesday night, the two
ACC foes will meet up at Cameron Indoor Arena for the next episode and
many people are already making their college basketball picks.
The
Blue Devils are the superior team once again but the gap has narrowed
from last season. If you might recall, the Blue Devils absolutely
hammered the Tar Heels at Cameron Indoor last season, winning by a score of 82-50. Find Zion Williamson Rookie Cards at Gold Card Auctions.
This season, the Tar Heels have come back to life and are 17-5. That’s
not as good as Duke’s 21-2 mark but considering the Tar Heels finished
just 20-17 last year and started the 2010-11 campaign 4-3, they have
made some noticeable improvements.
Duke will once again have a huge edge in experience on Wednesday night
because the Tar Heels are still a program that is in rebuilding mode.
They have freshmen all over the place whereas Duke is the national
champions and they have returned quite a bit of that core.
The
Tar Heels back court will be tested several in this matchup especially
when you consider that guard Larry Drew just left the team and they’ll
have to contain the ACC’s leading scorer in Nolan Smith. Up front, it
should be another matchup of experience versus youth as freshman
Harrison Barnes is likely to match up with Kyle Singler.
The bottom line for this contest is that Duke has just far more proven
talent and experience than the Tar Heels right now. At this time next
year, these two teams could be even but with home court advantage and
the other factors mentioned, expect the Blue Devils to win easily but
not as easily as they did in this matchup last year.
