March 4, 2013 - bwin MVP for
February: Ante Tomic, FC Barcelona Regal
Most
people celebrate their birthdays only on the date they were born. Ante
Tomic of FC Barcelona Regal started well before he turned 26 in
mid-February and kept the party going until the last day of the month.
By the time he had finished, it was clear to anyone watching that Tomic
has entered his prime as a big man who can anchor a great team, making
him Euroleague Basketball's clear choice as bwin MVP for February.
Tomic was his team's top scorer, rebounder and shot-blocker as
Barcelona put together the only 4-0 record during the Turkish Airlines
Euroleague Top 16 last month. Barcelona defeated the two teams closest
to it in the standings at home, and went on the road to win twice more.
It did not trail on the scoreboard after halftime during any game all
month and not after the first quarter in three of the four victories.

night as he tied the Euroleague’s single-game scoring record en route

December 31, 2012 - bwin MVP for
December: Maciej Lampe, Caja Laboral Vitoria
A
year ago, a long-term injury forced him to watch his new team miss the
Top 16 for the first time this century. One year later, center Maciej
Lampe proved to be the difference as Caja Laboral Vitoria not only
returned to the Top 16 against all odds, but opened it with a
resounding victory over the defending champions. For his sizeable and
timely contributions to Caja Laboral's revival, Lampe is Euroleague
Basketball's choice as the bwin MVP for December. A month that started
with the team facing a do-or-die situation on the road ended with Caja
Laboral enjoying a four-game winning streak, the second-longest in the
competition. Lampe was key to that turnaround as the major inside force
around which Caja Laboral built its offense. Read more here.

December 19, 2012 - Top 16 Groups
breakdown, Group F
Maccabi
Electra’s recently appointed captain Lior Eliyahu is the Israeli
champs’ most experienced player with two appearances in the Euroleague
title game under his belt. Eliyahu’s arsenal is not what one would
expect from a 2.07-meter power forward; his game is based on speed, an
impressive array of unorthodox moves in the paint and great court
vision, all skills which help to make the big men around him better.
Eliyahu’s combination of skills, experience and his position as a fan
favorite make him the face of Maccabi’s success. Two time Euroleague
champion and Final Four MVP Vassilis Spanoulis is at his best again
this season as evidenced by him earning bwin MVP for November honors.

breakdown, Group E
Two-time
Euroleague Rising Star Award winner Nikola Mirotic has blossomed from
promising talent to important contributor to bona fide star in a matter
of seasons. Now the do-it-all forward is a go-to guy for Los Blancos.
Statistics are not enough to fully see what Mirotic means to Madrid,
since the attention opponents must pay to him often opens up
opportunities for fellow stars. Nevertheless, Mirotic is the only
player Coach Laso has started in every game and ranks among the team’s
leaders in scoring, rebounding, blocks and fouls drawn. And as age 21,
the best is yet to come. Marko Popovic is more than just a great
scorer. Now in his second stint and fourth season with Zalgiris,
Popovic has emerged as a team leader on top of his status as a fan
favorite and a winner. Read more here.
