January 18, 2020 - Round 20 MVP: Shane Larkin, Anadolu Efes Istanbul

shane larkinShane Larkin made another piece of history in Round 20 with his performance in Anadolu Efes Istanbul’s victory making him the first ever player to win the MVP of the Round honor in three consecutive rounds. In a 101-74 home win over LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne, Larkin shined with 29 points on 3-for-4 two-point shooting, 6-for-9 from three-point range and 5-for-5 from the free throw line. He also dished a game-high 7 assists, pulled down 6 rebounds, had 1 steal and drew 7 fouls for a performance index rating of 45, which is the season's second-best after his own 53. The victory sent Efes two wins clear atop the standings after 20 games. Mike James of CSKA Moscow had the second highest PIR, 34. In a home victory over KIROLBET Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz, James netted 33 points and had 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 8 drawn fouls. Read more here.

shane larkinA thrilling individual performance within a great team effort saw Shane Larkin of Anadolu Efes Istanbul to earn his second consecutive MVP honor in Round 19. Larkin led Efes to an 88-68 home victory against AX Armani Exchange Milan with 23 points on 4-for-7 two-point, 4-for-8 three-point and 3-for-3 free-throw shooting. He added 3 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals, a block and 7 fouls drawn for a performance index rating of 30, the best on a winning team in Round 19. He is the second player, after Mike James of CSKA Moscow, to earn back-to-back MVP honors this season. Nikola Mirotic of FC Barcelona also had a PIR of 30 but his team lost 92-85 on the road to Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv. Despite that, Mirotic shined with 22 points on 4-for-7 three-point shooting, 10 rebounds, 3 assists and 7 fouls drawn. The first double-round week of 2020 tips off on Tuesday with a rematch between CSKA Moscow and Real Madrid, semifinals opponents from the last two seasons, the winner in each having gone on to win the title. shane larkinFirst-place Anadolu Efes Istanbul made another statement at Palau Blaugrana by edging host FC Barcelona 82-86 on Friday as Shane Larkin picked up another MVP of the Round honor. In a high-profile collision that went down to the wire, Larkin posted a game-high 26 points, going 4-for-6 on two-pointers, 3-for-8 from the three-point arc and 9-for-9 at the foul line. He added 5 assists, 2 steals and 9 fouls drawn. His 4 perfect free throws broke an 82-82 tie in the final 32 seconds. Larkin's performance index rating of 35 was the best on a winning team in Round 18. This is his fifth MVP of the Round award, four of them against Barcelona. Tornike Shengelia of KIROLBET Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz had this round's highest PIR, a career-high 37, posting 21 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists and a career-best 3 blocks in a home loss against Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul. The second half of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Regular Season gets underway with a bang as Round 18 features a match-up that, considering the standings to date, could be repeated at the Final Four. One of the fastest-developing rivalries in the competition is between FC Barcelona (13-4) and league-leading Anadolu Efes Istanbul (14-3), who go head-to-head at Palau Blaugrana this week in a game that could go a long way towards deciding the final standings. Efes memorably defeated Barca in last season's playoffs, holding firm in the home decider to win the series 3-2 and advance to the Final Four, but the Spanish team gained a measure of revenge in the opening week of the current campaign with a 64-74 win at the Sinan Erdem Dome. Calathes scored 22 points, making 3 of 5 two-point shots and 3 of 8 triples, including the one that sent the game into overtime with 7 seconds left. The Greens' point guard dished 17 assists – the joint third-highest total this century – and pulled down 6 rebounds with 1 steal and 9 drawn fouls for a performance index rating of 40. This is his second MVP of the Round honor this season, and sixth of his career. His teammate Dinos Mitoglou had a career-night and this round's second-highest PIR, 34. At nearly the halfway point of the regular season, it's clear that Nikola Mirotic of FC Barcelona, Euroleague Basketball's choice as MVP of December, is not only meeting expectations – he's exceeding them. Mirotic was the driving force as Barca went 5-0 this month to join a three-way tie for first place. Mirotic was largely unstoppable in December, leading Barca in rebounds and performance index rating in four of those victories, and in scoring for three of them. In a month when just two teams went unbeaten, Barca's average victory margin was 10.2 points. Mirotic shot 73.7% on two-pointers for the month and 92.3% at the free-throw line, providing Barcelona with all the efficiency it needed to stay with the top teams in the standings heading into 2020. bojan dubljevicWith a career-best performance on Friday that led Valencia Basket to a thrilling, come-from-behind 98-100 overtime road win against Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul, center Bojan Dubljevic has earned the first MVP of the Round honor of his Turkish Airlines EuroLeague career. Dubljevic accumulated his career-high and club-record performance index rating of 42 in a memorable game. He tied a 15-year old club record by scoring 30 points on 9-for-11 two-point, 2-for-3 three-point and 6-for-7 free-throw shooting. He also pulled down 12 rebounds, another career-high, to go with 2 assists plus 5 fouls drawn. This marks only the third time a Valencia player has earned the MVP of the Round honor. On the losing end of the same game, Fenerbahce guard Nando De Colo registered Round 16's second-highest PIR, 37. The final games of 2019 saw big performance from big-time players to lead a few big clubs to important victories. Among Thursday's five games, Walter Tavares dominated as Real Madrid notched a road win in Athens, Mike James and Daniel Hackett torched their former team as CSKA Moscow won the first-ever EuroLeague game in Kaliningrad, and Vasilije Micic and Rodrigue Beaubois combined for 9 three-pointers and 45 points in striking down Maccabi. mike jamesMike James of CSKA Moscow earned the MVP of the Round honor for the second time in 48 hours, this time for his performance in a thrilling 80-81 road win over Anadolu Efes Istanbul on Friday night. In a rematch of last season's Championship Game, James shined by scoring 10 of his 28 points in the final five minutes, including a game-winning jumper with 17 seconds to go. That concluded a near-perfect shooting night, as James made 5-of-5 two-pointers and 5-of-7 triples. He also led CSKA with 6 rebounds and added 4 assists and 5 fouls drawn, accumulating a performance index rating of 36. It is the fourth MVP honor for James this season, and the sixth of his career. James is only the third player in the EuroLeague to win two MVP of the Round honors in the same week, after Luka Doncic in the 2017-18 season, and Alexey Shved last season. Behind him, with a PIR of 30, came Alexey Shved of Khimki Moscow Region, who tied his career high with 36 points to go with 9 assists, 3 rebounds and 11 fouls drawn in a 109-98 overtime road loss against Olympiacos Piraeus. kostas sloukasKostas Sloukas produced the best performance of his long and illustrious Turkish Airlines EuroLeague career in Round 12, playing the key role in his Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul’s 107-102 overtime victory over ALBA Berlin and taking the MVP of the Round award for the first time. The veteran point guard posted a career-high PIR of 39 after scoring 23 points – his third-most in 233 EuroLeague games – and dishing 10 assists, a personal season high and his second-best total ever. Sloukas also made 13 of 13 free throws, the third-most without a miss by any player this decade. The second-best performance of the week came from the previous round’s MVP, Shane Larkin, who had 24 points and 8 assists for a PIR of 37 in Anadolu Efes Istanbul’s big win at KIROLBET Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz. And by the time that Shane Larkin capped it off with a new Turkish Airlines EuroLeague scoring record, there was no doubt that the 27-year-old Anadolu Efes Istanbul guard was the only choice for MVP of November. Larkin, a 1.83-meter force of nature, was unstoppable as Efes won all five games to finish November holding first place exclusively. His totals of 131 points and 154 in performance index rating were unprecedented for a single month, and his fireworks display to end November put him firmly in the record books. Larkin shattered the EuroLeague's mark for single-game scoring, with 49 points, and tied the record for three-pointers made, with 10, in a resounding 104-75 victory over FC Bayern Munich. It was memorable stuff for EuroLeague fans in general, and Efes fans in particular, making Larkin's November one of the most unforgettable months of individual greatness in the competition's history. December 1, 2019 - Round 11 MVP: Shane Larkin, Anadolu Efes Istanbul

shane larkinShane Larkin rewrote history on Friday night while leading Anadolu Efes Istanbul to a 104-75 win over FC Bayern Munich and running away with the MVP honor for Round 11. Larkin crashed the record books by shattering the EuroLeague's all-time scoring mark with 49 points and by tying the single-game record for three-pointers, making 10 in 12 attempts. His efficient shooting also included 5-for-7 two-point and 9-for-10 free-throw shooting. Larkin added 5 assists, 2 rebounds, 1 steal and 6 drawn fouls in just 31 minutes to accumulate a performance index rating of 53, the EuroLeague's fifth-best all-time and the highest in more than 15 years. This marked the fourth MVP of the Round award for Larkin, all of which have come since last March. The next-best PIR, 30, belonged to Nikola Milutinov of Olympiacos Piraeus, who had 13 points, 11 rebounds 2 assists, 2 steals and 7 drawn fouls in a 91-70 home win over AX Armani Exchange Milan. In Barcelona's huge 96-73 win over the visiting Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv, Mirotic had one of the finest games of his career. He scored a season-high 25 points, making 6 of 9 two-point shots and 3 of 5 triples, while pulling down a career-high 14 rebounds. Mirotic also had 3 assists and 1 steal for a performance index rating 35, tied for the second-highest of his career. This is Mirotic's first MVP of the Round honor this season and fourth of his career. Two players – Gabriel Deck of Real Madrid and Stefan Jovic of Khimki Moscow Region – set their respective career highs with PIRs of 33 in this round. James drilled 31 points as CSKA topped rival Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul 88-70 on Friday. His scoring total, which included 6-for-8 three-point and 9-for-9 free throw shooting, matched the second-highest of James's 120-game EuroLeague career. He added 4 assists, 2 rebounds, 1 steal and 7 fouls drawn for a career-best performance index rating of 38. This round's highest PIR, 41, belongs to Ioannis Papapetrou of Panathinaikos OPAP Athens. Papapetrou had a career night in his team's double-overtime home loss against ALBA Berlin, scoring 39 points along with 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals and 1 block. Higgins scored 24 of his career-high 27 points in the second half, and missed only 1 shot the entire night. He made 4 of 5 two-pointers and shot a perfect 5-for-5 triples, also a career-best, while making all 4 of his free throw attempts. He also had 1 assist and 1 steal to accumulate a performance index rating of 33, the highest among players on winning teams in Round 7, earning the third MVP of the Round honor in his career. The highest PIR in Round 7 belongs to Jordan Loyd of Valencia Basket. In a road loss against Panathinaikos OPAP Athens, Loyd had 27 points, 8 assists, 5 rebounds, 2 steals and 1 block for an index rating of 41, a club record. sergio rodriguezA defending champion and former full-season MVP who jumped at the challenge of raising a new team to great heights, Sergio Rodriguez of AX Armani Exchange Milan, is EuroLeague Basketball's choice as the MVP of October in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague. Rodriguez, 33, was the point man as Milan shook off an opening-night loss to claim five consecutive victories and close the month tied for first place. Its October winning streak culminated in Milan knocking off previously unbeaten FC Barcelona at home as Rodriguez scored 9 points and dished 2 assists in less than 2 minutes at the end of the game. As the month ended, Rodriguez was leading Milan in scoring, assists, three-pointers and free throws made, steals and performance index rating. He also ranked among the EuroLeague's top 12 players in five of those six categories. His immediate impact has resulted in Milan's best start of the century and earned Rodriguez the first MVP of the Month honor in his 10-year EuroLeague career. Read more here.

Zvezda guard Charles Jenkins will face his team of the last two seasons, Khimki, and be part of the effort to stop the EuroLeague's top scorer by average in both of those years, Alexey Shved. Panathinaikos is 11-1 at home against Efes since 2001, with an average winning margin of 12.9 points. He added 5 assists, 2 steals and 2 rebounds for a performance index rating of 29, the best in Round 5. Micic's 26 points was a new career high, a point above the 25 he scored in last season's semifinals against Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul. Following Micic was Alexey Shved of Khimki Moscow Region, who registered a PIR of 28 in his team's home win against Panathinaikos OPAP Athens. Shved downed a season-high 26 points by making 7 of 8 two-point shots, 2 of 8 threes and 6 of 6 free throws. He also had 7 assists 3 rebounds. He added 9 rebounds, 3 assists, a block and 4 fouls drawn to reach a PIR of 28. Bryant Dunston of Anadolu Efes Istanbul had a PIR of 27 in his team's 76-60 home win against Real Madrid. Dunston had 17 points on 8-of-10 two-point shots, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, a block and 2 fouls drawn. Arturas Gudaitis of AX Armani Exchange Milan amassed a PIR of 25 in his first EuroLeague game of the season. nando de coloNando De Colo had the best individual performances in recent Turkish Airlines EuroLeague seasons while leading Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul to its first win of this one as he earned the MVP honor for Round 3. In his first EuroLeague home game in Fenerbahce uniform, De Colo was truly unstoppable in an 87-80 win over KIROLBET Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz. He posted two career highs with 39 points and performance index rating of 44. His scoring was the second-highest total this and just 2 points below the EuroLeague's all-time single-game record. His PIR was the league's highest since 2015. De Colo made 12 of 15 two-point shots, 3 of 6 triples, and 6 of 7 free throws. He also had 3 assists, 3 rebounds, 1 steal and 9 fouls drawn. It marks his 16th MVP of the Round honor, six more than any other EuroLeague player. Round 3's next-best PIR was 35 by Zach LeDay of Zalgiris Kaunas, who collected 26 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal in an 86-73 home win over Real Madrid. Read more here.

Micic scored 15 of his 23 points in the second half and overtime. The Efes guard made 3 of 10 two-point shots, 4 of 6 threes and 5 of 6 free throws. Micic set personal highs with 13 assists and 4 steals. It all added up to a career-high performance index rating of 32, the highest of any player in Round 2, for the second MVP of the Round of Micic's career. Micic's backcourt teammate Shane Larkin had a PIR 31, the second highest in this round. Larkin scored 16 points to go with 5 assists and 5 rebounds. The third-best performance this week belonged to Jordan Mickey of Real Madrid, who posted 16 points, 11 rebounds, 1 assist and 6 fouls drawn for an index rating of 30. Read more here.
