November 17, 2019 - Round 8 MVP: Mike James, CSKA Moscow

mike jamesA career-best outing in a bounce-back victory earned Mike James of CSKA Moscow the MVP honor for Round 8 as the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague's top performer on a winning team. James drilled 31 points as CSKA topped rival Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul 88-70 on Friday. His scoring total, which included 6-for-8 three-point and 9-for-9 free throw shooting, matched the second-highest of James's 120-game EuroLeague career. He added 4 assists, 2 rebounds, 1 steal and 7 fouls drawn for a career-best performance index rating of 38. This round's highest PIR, 41, belongs to Ioannis Papapetrou of Panathinaikos OPAP Athens. Papapetrou had a career night in his team's double-overtime home loss against ALBA Berlin, scoring 39 points along with 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals and 1 block. Two players had index ratings of 32: Tornike Shengelia of KIROLBET Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz and Panathinaikos big man Jacob Wiley. Read more here.

Let's face it. Thursday night's Game of the Week between Real Madrid and FC Barcelona is not your average El Clįsico. Not since July 6, when Barca announced that it had signed Nikola Mirotic, whom Real had raised to stardom, for the next three seasons or more. On the one hand, Mirotic's signing was the biggest of several bold moves that Barca made over the summer to challenge for nothing less than the EuroLeague title that has eluded the club since 2010. November 11, 2019 - Round 7 MVP: Cory Higgins, FC Barcelona

cory higginsWith his team trying to get back to winning ways on a tough road test, Cory Higgins led FC Barcelona to an 86-93 win in a packed Zalgirio Arena, and in the process earned the MVP of the Round honor. Higgins scored 24 of his career-high 27 points in the second half, and missed only 1 shot the entire night. He made 4 of 5 two-pointers and shot a perfect 5-for-5 triples, also a career-best, while making all 4 of his free throw attempts. He also had 1 assist and 1 steal to accumulate a performance index rating of 33, the highest among players on winning teams in Round 7, earning the third MVP of the Round honor in his career. The highest PIR in Round 7 belongs to Jordan Loyd of Valencia Basket. In a road loss against Panathinaikos OPAP Athens, Loyd had 27 points, 8 assists, 5 rebounds, 2 steals and 1 block for an index rating of 41, a club record. In third place is Shane Larkin of Anadolu Efes Istanbul who had a PIR of 31 with 24 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists in a big road win at Olympiacos Piraeus. Read more here.

The Turkish Airlines EuroLeague is taking shape after last week's two games, with three teams now owning a share of first place, but plenty more challengers ready to make a move as we prepare for Round 7. Anyone doubting the ferociously competitive nature of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague only needs to look at the standings. With six teams tied for seventh place and just one win separating the fourth position from 12th, it's clear that we are set for another season of twists and turns with everything to play for and no excuse for anyone to feel either comfortable or disconsolate. November 4, 2019 - MVP for October: Sergio Rodriguez, AX Armani Exchange Milan

sergio rodriguezA defending champion and former full-season MVP who jumped at the challenge of raising a new team to great heights, Sergio Rodriguez of AX Armani Exchange Milan, is EuroLeague Basketball's choice as the MVP of October in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague. Rodriguez, 33, was the point man as Milan shook off an opening-night loss to claim five consecutive victories and close the month tied for first place. Its October winning streak culminated in Milan knocking off previously unbeaten FC Barcelona at home as Rodriguez scored 9 points and dished 2 assists in less than 2 minutes at the end of the game. As the month ended, Rodriguez was leading Milan in scoring, assists, three-pointers and free throws made, steals and performance index rating. He also ranked among the EuroLeague's top 12 players in five of those six categories. His immediate impact has resulted in Milan's best start of the century and earned Rodriguez the first MVP of the Month honor in his 10-year EuroLeague career. Read more here.





November 2, 2019 - Round 6 MVP: Tornike Shengelia, Baskonia

tornike shengeliaWith his team needing to protect its home floor, KIROLBET Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz captain Tornike Shengelia stepped up once again to lead a 93-60 blowout win over FC Bayern Munich on Friday. Shengelia's performance index rating of 28, the highest among players on winning teams in Round 6, earning him his second MVP of the Round honor in as many weeks. The Baskonia forward scored 13 of his team-high 19 points in the first quarter. He made 4 of 8 two-pointers, 2 of 2 triples and all 5 of his free throws. Shengelia also collected 3 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal and 1 block in the winning effort. The highest PIR in this round was 30 and belonged to Shane Larkin of Anadolu Efes Istanbul. In a road loss against Panathinaikos OPAP Istanbul, Larkin had 28 points with 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 7 fouls drawn. Nando De Colo of Fenerbahce had an index rating of 28, the same as Shengelia, however his team lost at home against Zalgiris Kaunas despite his 29 points and 2 assists. Read more here.

Zvezda guard Charles Jenkins will face his team of the last two seasons, Khimki, and be part of the effort to stop the EuroLeague's top scorer by average in both of those years, Alexey Shved. Panathinaikos is 11-1 at home against Efes since 2001, with an average winning margin of 12.9 points. The sole victory for Efes in Athens came in 2006, but since then, the Greens have won all nine of their meetings there. Read more here.

vasilije micicA solid performance in a winning effort allowed Vasilije Micic of Anadolu Efes Istanbul to earn the MVP honor for Round 5 of the regular season. Micic led Efes to an 85-70 home win over Crvena Zvezda mts Belgrade with 26 points on 5-for-8 two-point, 4-for-6 three-point and 4-for-4 free throw shooting. He added 5 assists, 2 steals and 2 rebounds for a performance index rating of 29, the best in Round 5. Micic's 26 points was a new career high, a point above the 25 he scored in last season's semifinals against Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul. Following Micic was Alexey Shved of Khimki Moscow Region, who registered a PIR of 28 in his team's home win against Panathinaikos OPAP Athens. Shved downed a season-high 26 points by making 7 of 8 two-point shots, 2 of 8 threes and 6 of 6 free throws. He also had 7 assists 3 rebounds. Mateusz Ponitka of Zenit St Petersburg came next, with a PIR of 27 in his team's overtime road win against Zalgiris Kaunas. Read more here.

The first two-round week of the season roars into action on Tuesday and there are sure to be countless talking points from this week’s 18 games. This week’s action gets underway with Round 5’s opener when Khimki Moscow Region welcomes Panathinaikos OPAP Athens at 1800 CET on Tuesday… and continues all the way until the last game of the week, Friday’s 2100 CET tip-off between Real Madrid and ALBA Berlin at the end of Round 6. In between, there will be more EuroLeague basketball action than ever before, with the new format of the league – which has expanded from 16 to 18 teams – meaning the first two-round week of the season will serve up an unprecedented total of 18 games in four days. Shengelia led Baskonia to an 82-66 home win against Olympiacos Piraeus with a career-high 25 points, hitting 9-of-16 two-point shots, 2-of-6 from downtown and his only free throw attempt. He added 9 rebounds, 3 assists, a block and 4 fouls drawn to reach a PIR of 28. Bryant Dunston of Anadolu Efes Istanbul had a PIR of 27 in his team's 76-60 home win against Real Madrid. Dunston had 17 points on 8-of-10 two-point shots, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, a block and 2 fouls drawn. Arturas Gudaitis of AX Armani Exchange Milan amassed a PIR of 25 in his first EuroLeague game of the season. Gudaitis led Milan to an 87-74 home victory against Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul with 17 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, a block and 8 fouls drawn in just 21 minutes. Read more here.

Round 4 of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Regular Season saw CSKA Moscow and FC Barcelona stay perfect with 100% records at the top of the standings. On Friday, reigning champ CSKA Moscow overcame a slow start to breeze past ALBA Berlin and stay perfect. Read more here.

October 20, 2019 - Round 3 MVP: Nando De Colo, Fenerbahce

nando de coloNando De Colo had the best individual performances in recent Turkish Airlines EuroLeague seasons while leading Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul to its first win of this one as he earned the MVP honor for Round 3. In his first EuroLeague home game in Fenerbahce uniform, De Colo was truly unstoppable in an 87-80 win over KIROLBET Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz. He posted two career highs with 39 points and performance index rating of 44. His scoring was the second-highest total this and just 2 points below the EuroLeague's all-time single-game record. His PIR was the league's highest since 2015. De Colo made 12 of 15 two-point shots, 3 of 6 triples, and 6 of 7 free throws. He also had 3 assists, 3 rebounds, 1 steal and 9 fouls drawn. It marks his 16th MVP of the Round honor, six more than any other EuroLeague player. Round 3's next-best PIR was 35 by Zach LeDay of Zalgiris Kaunas, who collected 26 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal in an 86-73 home win over Real Madrid. Read more here.

vasilije micicWith Anadolu Efes Istanbul trying to register its first win of the season, All-EuroLeague point guard Vasilije Micic stepped up with a career-best performance in his team's 106-105 overtime win over ALBA Berlin, earning himself the MVP of the Round honor. Micic scored 15 of his 23 points in the second half and overtime. The Efes guard made 3 of 10 two-point shots, 4 of 6 threes and 5 of 6 free throws. Micic set personal highs with 13 assists and 4 steals. It all added up to a career-high performance index rating of 32, the highest of any player in Round 2, for the second MVP of the Round of Micic's career. Micic's backcourt teammate Shane Larkin had a PIR 31, the second highest in this round. Larkin scored 16 points to go with 5 assists and 5 rebounds. The third-best performance this week belonged to Jordan Mickey of Real Madrid, who posted 16 points, 11 rebounds, 1 assist and 6 fouls drawn for an index rating of 30. Read more here.

After an action-packed opening week there are plenty more big games in Round 2, which is guaranteed to see at least three teams maintain perfect records after head to head clashes between last week’s winners. With big men Jan Vesely and Joffrey Lauvergne both missing the start of the season through injury, new Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul signing Derrick Williams did his very best to help his team by achieving a rare feat in the Round 1 loss at Real Madrid. mike jamesIn his debut in a CSKA Moscow uniform, reigning top scorer Mike James led the defending Turkish Airlines EuroLeague champions to a resounding 71-96 road win at Valencia Basket to earn the season's first MVP of Round 1 honor. James was perfect from the field, shooting 6 for 6 on two-point shots and 1 for 1 from the three-point arc as he finished with 20 points. James also had 5 assists, 2 rebounds and drew 6 fouls for a performance index rating 28, the highest of all players in Round 1. This marks the third MVP of the Round honor in James's career. Second on the list of opening round's top performers was Vladimir Lucic of FC Bayern Munich, with a PIR 26 in his team's 78-64 home win over AX Armani Exchange Milan. Lucic had 18 points, 5 rebounds and 2 steals. Two players had an index rating of 25, DeShaun Thomas of Panathinaikos OPAP Athens and Tonye Jekiri of LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne. Read more here.

This week’s opening round provides a true heavyweight clash along with several more intriguing matchups as Europe’s finest attempt to tip off the new campaign on the right foot. Here are five of the biggest storylines to watch out for. There is no doubt about the game of the week as the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague returns to action on Thursday night: Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul’s trip to face Real Madrid. These two teams have been consistent high achievers over the last few seasons, with Real taking the title in 2015 and 2018 while Fenerbahce did so in 2017. But they will both be heading into the new season with a sense of having something to prove after suffering losses in the semifinals at the 2019 Final Four in Vitoria-Gasteiz. Read more here.
