One of the biggest occasions in world sport wraps up the headline action this week in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague, but before that there will be lots more mouth-watering action to savor. The EuroLeague's endlessly competitive nature is evident from the fact that only one team is unbeaten through four rounds over three weeks. October 17, 2020 - MVP of the Week: Vladimir Lucic, Bayern

vladimir lucicVeteran forward Vladimir Lucic has earned the MVP of the Week honor for his outsized role in leading FC Bayern Munich to a pair of monumental road wins in the first double-round of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague season. Lucic was the high scorer for Bayern in both games, and his combined 53 performance index rating topped all players who won two games this week. First, Lucic had career highs of 26 points and 29 PIR as Bayern upset host Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv 82-85 in Round 3 on Wednesday. Just 48 hours later, he sealed a 21-point comeback at the foul line and finished with 18 points as Bayern stunned Fenerbahce Beko 71-75 in Istanbul. This marks the first MVP honor for Lucic in his eight-season EuroLeague career. The highest combined PIR in games this week, 57, belonged to Sergio Rodriguez of AX Armani Exchange Milan. Rodriguez had 18 points and a PIR of 20 in a 86-75 loss to Olympiacos Piraeus on Wednesday, then shined with 25 points and 7 assists for a PIR of 37 in Milan's come-from-behind 78-70 win over Real Madrid on Friday. October 14, 2020 - Round 4

The third of four consecutive days of games in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague featured the first two contests in Round 4 on Thursday. Zalgiris Kaunas put on a display in beating Anadolu Efes Istanbul to remain undefeated before FC Barcelona survived an overtime thriller against Panathinaikos OPAP Athens. The bright lights on Friday night will focus on five more games, including the latest chapters in the rivalries pitting AX Armani Exchange Milan against Real Madrid and Olympiacos Piraeus against Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv. The first night of the first two-round week of the season was a strong one for the visiting teams with all three road sides coming away victorious. Zalgiris Kaunas became the first team to three wins when it conquered Belgrade, Anadolu Efes Istanbul left the German capital with its first win and FC Barcelona claimed a victory at Valencia. Four more Round 3 games will be played on Wednesday.

October 12, 2020 - Round 2 MVP: Jordan Loyd, Crvena Zvezda mts Belgrade

jordan loydCrvena Zvezda mts Belgrade looked for a go-to leader in its first home game and Jordan Loyd responded with a performance worth the MVP honor for Round 2 of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Regular Season. Loyd matched Zvezda's second-best scoring total ever in the club's 151 EuroLeague games to lead Zvezda to a resounding 90-73 win over visiting TD Systems Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz. Making 5 of 8 three-pointers and 9 perfect free throws among his 30 points, Loyd added 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals on the way to a 34 performance index rating, the best on any winning team in Round 2. Krunoslav Simon had the same PIR for Anadolu Efes Istanbul but his 24 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists could not prevent a 71-80 home loss to Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul. The third-best performance of the week belonged to Jonas Jerebko of Khimki Moscow Region, who had 23 points, 12 rebounds and a PIR of 30 in undermanned team's 70-84 home loss to Zalgiris Kaunas. The Turkish Airlines EuroLeague round-robin format promises great games week in and week out. Entering this season, Maccabi's single-game club record in two-pointers made was 35, set in a 76-93 road win against CSKA Moscow in January 2019 that ended its streak of nine consecutive losses in the Russian capital, which dated back to 2004.

October 3, 2020 - Round 1 MVP: Pierria Henry, TD Systems Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz

pierria henryThe opening week of the new season concluded with an MVP of the Round performance from Pierria Henry, who fired TD Systems Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz to victory over Spanish rivals Real Madrid. Henry was everywhere in his team’s 76-63 win, registering a personal-best 32 PIR by hitting 5 of 7 two-pointers among a career-high 23 points. His 6 assists were only 1 short of Real's entire team total, further contributing to the first MVP award of Henry's EuroLeague career. The next best individual performance came from Simone Fontecchio of ALBA Berlin, who paired 16 points with 8 rebounds for a PIR of 27 in his team’s loss at Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv. One of his opponents, Angelo Caloiaro had a PIR of 25 after he scored 18 points in Maccabi’s victory. He went 5 for 5 on both two-pointers and free throws, and his 3 steals matched Caloiaro's career-high. September 30, 2020 - Round 1

The new Turkish Airlines EuroLeague season tips off with Round 1 games on October 1 and 2. As always, the round-robin format promises great matchups week in and week out. In their first and only official meeting to date, Efes held off visiting Zenit 90-88 last November. Despite the loss, Zenit set a club record with 26 assists. Austin Hollins hit 7 three-pointers made and Alex Renfroe dished 10 assists, both season highs for Zenit.
