NCAA March Madness Betting | NCAA Final Four Betting Tips

The NCAA Men’s Basketball Final Four is set to tip off in Atlanta, Georgia this week, and we’re here to bring you the gambling insight you need to place the proper wager. The Michigan Wolverines are narrowly favored over the Syracuse Orange while the Louisville Cardinals are projected to win by a much larger margin.

Wichita State Shockers (+9.5) vs. Louisville Cardinals (-9.5)

The No. 9-seeded Wichita State Shockers came out of nowhere this March to stun (or shock?) the college basketball betting world. Louisville, meanwhile, was the heavily projected favorite to win the tournament before it even began, and the subsequent weeks of easy wins for the Cardinals has done nothing to dispel the notion that they’re the best team in college basketball this season. Though Louisville’s win over the Duke Blue Devils last Sunday was overshadowed by the horrific leg injury sustained by the Cardinals’ Kevin Ware, the caliber of their victory shouldn’t be ignored. Louisville outclassed the Blue Devils in virtually every aspect of the game, eventually winning easily 85-63.

That kind of massive score differential is what the Cardinals can do to their opponents. Louisville coach Rick Pitino has long recruited long, athletic players that can be a massive nuisance on the defensive end of the floor, and his aggressive press defense schemes don’t give his team’s opponents any breathing room offensively. Wichita State has a lot of older players (they have several junior college transfers and players who redshirted), but I just don’t think they have the raw talent necessary to overcome this Louisville squad.

However, I think it will be closer than most people think; I’d cautiously take the Wichita State Shockers to cover the spread, though lose the game. It’s always wise to be careful with large point spreads, particularly in the tournament when the pace of play slows down and defense becomes a higher priority. There’s no doubt that Louisville is the better team, but they’ll be playing conservatively against an unknown quantity. You may take the Shockers and bet on +9.5.

Syracuse Orange (+2.5) vs. Michigan Wolverines (-2.5)

The Syracuse Orange run a strict 2-3 zone defensive scheme, which allows them to defend areas of the floor instead of individual players. This style of play can make it very hard for slower teams or teams that can’t shoot to find success against them. However, the Michigan Wolverines are both devastatingly athletic in their perimeter play and can knock down long range shots with the best of them. If Michigan is playing with the same intensity and style that they brought to their 20-point blowout win over the Florida Gators last weekend, this one could be over for Syracuse before it begins.

In the Michigan-Florida game, the Gators ran a zone defense similar to the one that Michigan will face against Syracuse. Michigan’s sharp shooting freshman Nik Stauskas responded by shooting a perfect six for six from beyond on the arc on wide open corner three-point attempts, an area of the floor left vulnerable in zone defensive schemes. Michigan has the speed and shooting prowess to defeat Syracuse, and I believe they will, and handily. Take the Wolverines at -2.5.
