February 26, 2010 - EuroLeague Top 16,
Week 4 MVP: Jamont Gordon, Cibona
Another thriller
in a Top 16
full of them rewarded a Week 4 MVP, Jamont Gordon of Cibona Zagreb,
whose team has otherwise had some of the hardest luck in the round. The
94-97 road win by Olympiacos at Cibona produced the second-most points
in any Euroleague game far this season and saddled the hosts with their
third three-point loss in a row.
February 24, 2010 - EuroCup Last 16 Game 4 co-MVPs: Victor Claver,
Power VLC and Devin Smith, Panellinios
The Eurocup Last
16 resumed
after a one-week break with best individual performances among Week 4
winning teams coming from Victor Claver of Power Electronics Valencia
and Devin Smith of Panellinios, each with a 26 performance index
rating. Although Oliver Stevic of Crvena Zvezda and Gary Neal of
Benetton Gioco Digitale had better index ratings, 33 and 31.
February 23, 2010 - EuroLeague Top 16, mid-round review: Group H
The Top 16's
return in Week 4
is perhaps most pivotal in Group H, where both Olympiacos (3-0) and BC
Khimki Moscow Region (2-1) can already advance to the Quarterfinal
Playoffs if both win their next games. Don't expect Caja Laboral (1-2)
and Cibona (0-3) to go quietly, however.
February 22, 2010 - BROSE BASKETS nab Aussie Worthington
Brose Baskets
Bamberg has
upgraded its frontline ahead of the stretch run for a spot in the
Eurocup quarterfinals by signing Australian Mark Worthington. The
forward arrives from the Melbourne Tigers of the Australian League,
where he ranked among the league’s best with 16.3 points and 6.9
rebounds per game.
February 22, 2010 - EuroCup Last 16, mid-round review: Group L
As one of just
two undefeated
teams in the Last 16, Crvena Zvezda (3-0) is the top candidate to reach
the Quarterfinals from Group L and one of the surest bets in the
competition to do so considering the numbers.
February 21, 2010 - EuroLeague Top 16, mid-round review: Group G
A big favorite
and three contenders are battling their way to the playoffs in Group G,
where CSKA Moscow (3-0) is trying to lay the groundwork for extending
its record Final Four appearance streak, already at seven.

Olimpija Wins
Union Olimpija
Ljubljana is
the London Nike International Junior Tournament 2010 champ! In the
title game played Saturday, the Slovenian team defeated USK Future
Stars Prague by 76-60.
February 19, 2010 - ARIS BSA 2003 adds Matt Walsh
On the last day
of possible
signings for Eurocup teams this season, Aris BSA 2003 added a serious
perimeter scoring threat in shooting guard Matt Walsh, who was one of
the top guns in the Euroleague earlier this season.
February 19, 2010 - EuroLeague Top 16, mid-round review: Group F
With six home
wins in as many
close games so far, Group F is proving to be as exciting as advertised.
With all teams having one once already, four triumphs will guarantee a
playoff spot, but don't be surprised if point differences in ties also
decide this group.
February 19, 2010 - EuroCup Last 16, mid-round review: Group K
One of the first
two
opportunities for a Quarterfinals qualifier comes from Group K, which
boasts the only undefeated team for the entire Eurocup season so far.
Bizkaia Bilbao Basket (3-0) has aleady recorded two road wins, now has
back-to-back home games and can reach the next round with a victory as
soon as Week 4 against Brose Baskets (2-1).
February 19, 2010 - EuroLeague Top 16, mid-round review: Group E
Already turned
upside down after three weeks, Group E promises plenty more drama in
the last half of the Top 16. Defending champ Panathinaikos (0-3) needs
to win all three games left to keep its playoffs options alive.
February 18, 2010 - EuroCup Last 16, mid-round review: Group J
With four of the
six best-ranked teams in the Last 16 so far, Group J is already seeing
a big battle for the Quarterfinals. Three of those teams - Hapoel
Jerusalem, Unics and Power Electronics Valencia - are currently tied
for first place with 2-1 records.
February 18, 2010 - PANELLINIOS BC inks Chris Owens at forward
Amid growing
injury problems
in its frontcourt, Panellinios BC added experience and athleticism at
the forward position by signing Chris Owens. The veteran arrives from
Ukrainian side BC Donetsk and will play in the Eurocup for the third
time.
February 18, 2010 - NIKE International Junior Tournament, London.
The newest entry
on the Nike
International Junior Tournament circuit takes the qualifying challenge
off the European mainland to the United Kingdom. The Barking Abbey
Academy Euroleague Basketball Junior Classification Tournament will be
held February 18 to 20 in the east London suburb of Dagenham.

Group I is
arguably the most
balanced of this season's Last 16. It's the only one in which every
team has at least a victory; there have been four road winners in six
games so far; every game has been decided by eight or fewer points:;
and no team can qualify or be eliminated until at least Week 5.

proud to announce that the Euroleague Final Four will take place in
Turin, Italy in 2011, as one of the showcase events with which the city
is celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Italian state.
February 16, 2010 - CEZ NYMBURK bulks up with Giorgios Tsiaras
CEZ Basketball
Nymburk shored up its frontline by signing forward Giorgios Tsiaras for
the remainder of the season. Tsiaras (207, 27) arrives from PAOK
Thessaloniki in Greece. His addition will help offset the loss of Ian
Hanavan to injury.
February 15, 2010 - NIKE International Junior Tournament, FMP wins in
Belgrade
For the third
year in a row,
the winner of the Belgrade Nike International Junior Tournament is none
other than host FMP, which downed INSEP 77-69 in Sunday's title game.
February 12, 2010 - EuroLeague, Top 16 Week 3 MVP: Terrell McIntyre,
Montepaschi Siena
In a week full of
outstanding
individual performances, nobody could surpass the show put on by
Terrell McIntyre of Montepaschi Siena, who earned Week 3 MVP honors
with a performance index rating of 43, the third-best in Top 16
history. McIntyre's performance on Thursday as he led Montepaschi to an
83-76 home win over Real Madrid was the highest-rated in a Top 16 game
since the record index of 51 was set by Jaka Lakovic for Panathinaikos
on March 25, 2004 in an overtime game.
February 12, 2010 - NIKE International Junior Tournament Belgrade
This weekend, for
a third consecutive year, the qualifying process to become Europe's
junior club champion passes through the basketball capital of Belgrade,
Serbia.
February 10, 2010 - Partizan Belgrade - Regal F.C. Barcelona
Disciplinary Judge decision
Euroleague
Basketball's
independent disciplinary judge, Mr. Patrick Grandjean, has dismissed
the protest against the referees' decision concerning the last play of
the Top 16 Week 2 game, Partizan Belgrade–Regal F.C. Barcelona. The
protest filed by Regal FC Barcelona with regards to its final attempt
to score in overtime.
February 10, 2010 - EuroCup Last 16 Week 3 MVP: Matt Nielsen, Power
Electronics Valencia
An outstanding
performance in a winning effort was required for Matt Nielsen of Power
Electronics Valencia to become the Last 16 Week 3 MVP in arguably one
of the closest races for the honor all decade in European competition.
Nielsen led Power Electronics Valencia to a pivotal 78-82 road win
against Galatasaray Cafe Crown with 14 points.
February 9, 2010 - Montepaschi adds size in Slokar
Montepaschi has
moved to
strengthen its frontcourt heading into the second half of the Top 16 by
inking power forward Uros Slokar for the remainder of the season.
Slokar (210, 26) arrives from Union Olimpija, where he averaged 6.2
points and 3.2 rebounds in nine Euroleague games this season.
February 9, 2010 - Butautas is out!
Zalgiris will
have the third
coach this season after the firing of a head coach Ramunas Butautas.
This decision comes after recent poor performances by Zalgiris in
domestic leagues. One of the most recent and the most famous result was
a defeat against Perlas Vilnius in LKL.
February 5, 2010 - EuroLeague, Top 16 Week 2 MVP: Alan Anderson,
Maccabi Electra
The historic 40th
showdown of
the decades-long rivalry between Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv and Real
Madrid was not only an outstanding Euroleague game of basketball at its
finest, but also inspired the best individual performance in Top 16
Week 2. In front of a sellout crowd at Nokia Arena, shooting guard Alan
Anderson led Maccabi to an 81-76 victory over Madrid with 20 points on
4-for-5 two-point and 9-of-9 free-throw shooting.
February 4, 2010 - Partizan continues shocking Europe
After beating
defending
champions Panathinaikos in OAKA, Partizan hosted another Euroleague
favourite - Barcelona. Even though Pionir, the home of Partizan, is
widely know to be one of the most difficult places to play for the
visiting team, Barcelona arrived to Belgrade hoping to record 12th
straight win in Euroleague which would keep them unbeaten.
February 3, 2010 - EuroCup, Last 16 Week 2 MVP: Phil Ricci, CEZ Nymburk
Not only did CEZ
Nymburk make
club history by getting its first-ever Eurocup Last 16 victory, but big
man Phil Ricci came off the bench for the Czech champs to register the
top individual performance in Week 2 of the round. Ricci became the
Last 16 Week 2 MVP by compiling a performance index rating of 34 during
in his team's 92-97 overtime road win against Turk Telekom.
February 3, 2010 - Zalgiris banned from signing new players
Zalgiris will not
be able to sign any new players until they pay their debt to a former
player Ratko Varda after FIBA placed a sanction on Lithuanian club.
Varda joined Zalgiris before 2008-2009 season but was forced to look
for another team after the club was hit by financial troubles.
February 2, 2010 - Bjelica extends deal with Rytas through 2011
Milko Bjelica
will remain a
player of Lietuvos Rytas at least till the summer 2011 ater signing a
contract extension with Lithuanian champions. This is the second year
at Rytas for 25-year-old Montenegrin.
February 2, 2010 - Vitoria, Spain to host Eurocup Finals!
Euroleague
Basketball has announced that the 2009-10 Eurocup season will culminate
with the Eurocup Finals in one of the continent's strongest basketball
markets, Vitoria, Spain, on April 17 and 18. The newest Eurocup
champion will be crowned at the10,000-seat Fernando Buesa Arena in
Vitoria, the homecourt of Euroleague club Caja Laboral.
