The Best Basketball Players in the NBA Right Now

The Best Basketball Players in the NBA Right Now

November 23, 2022

The NBA season might only in its infancy but already there are certain players who are setting a high bar for what’s to come as they look to lead their teams to greatness.

In this article, we will take a look at the best basketball players in the NBA right now.

Number 5. Kevin Durant, Brooklyn Nets

Kicking off our look at the best basketball players in the NBA right now is Brooklyn Nets’ main man Kevin Durant. Sure, there are massive trade rumours surrounding him right now, which are only likely to intensify after he dropped some comments to rival that of Cristiano Ronaldo in the soccer world but there is no denying that he’s been insanely good so far this season.

Durant has is averaging north of 30 points per game so far with 6.5 rebounds and 5.2 assists to boot. Unfortunately, his teammates aren’t matching up to those levels. That means that Durant will continue to carry the Nets and raise his numbers, putting himself at the top of the NBA odds, where the MVP award is concerned.

In an alternative scenario, he will get his wish and join a Championship contender, which will see him surrounded by better players. Either way, Durant is going to continue shining.

Number 4. Steph Curry, Golden State Warriors

Steph Curry has been posting insane numbers for the last couple of seasons and the early section of this season suggests that 2022/23 is going to be another belter of a campaign for the Warriors man. So far this season, Curry has put up 32.2 points per game putting him on course for a career high. Underpinning that impressive PPG tally is Curry’s ability to convert from beyond the arc.

Right now, he’s shooting three pointers with a 44.3% success rate. That’s a bonkers performance but, amazingly, it’s almost expected of Curry nowadays. When you then stand up 6.7 rebounds, 6.6 assists and 1.1 steals per game alongside that scoring performance you cannot doubt that Curry is an ultimate all round player.

Number 3. LeBron James, LA Lakers

Even non-Basketball fans know LeBron James as one of the biggest stars to have come out of the NBA holding him in a similar regard to the likes of legendary players such as Michael Jordan and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar but despite being 37 years old, he shows no signs of slowing down as he still dominates the league. The Lakers man is currently shooting from the field at 45.7% amassing 24.9 points per game.

It’s not just in the points scoring where James continues to impress though. He’s been an instrumental figure for the Lakers in the early part of the season weighing in with 8.8 rebounds, 6.9 assists and 1.1 steals per game too.

He continues to be the top dog but, with all that being noted, he’s an injury concern for the Lakers upcoming fixtures. If he’s out for any length of time his MVP chances will be reduced but if history tells us anything it’s to not doubt James.

Number 2. Nikola Jokic, Denver Nuggets

Nikola Jokic is another player that, like James, is currently battling against fitness issues. Again though, like James, when Jokic is out on the court with the Denver Nuggets he continues to light up the NBA with his performances. Given Jokic scooped the MVP award last season that is perhaps not the biggest surprise that he remains amongst the best players in the NBA right now.

In terms of points scoring, his numbers are down on prior years at 20.8 points per game, but his field goal conversion currently sits at a handsome 60.6%, which is above anything he’s posted in the past. Combine that with what is currently a career high average for assists per game (8.9) and a hefty rebound stat of 9.5 and Jokic is rightly lauded.

Number 1. Giannis Antetokounmpo, Milwaukee Bucks

Last but not least we end our look at the best basketball players in the NBA right now with the Bucks’ Greek Freak, Giannis Antetokounmpo. Sure, some people will point to his recent display against the 76ers as ammo against this selection but Antetokounmpo has won two back to back MVP awards in the last few years, won the NBA Championship and made the All-Star team six times in a row since 2017. You cannot park those achievements for one off game.

We’re not just backing Antetokounmpo as the number one player right now for what he did a couple of years ago either. Even this season he’s putting up some highly impressive numbers. He’s averaging 29.5 points per game, teeing up his teammates at a rate of 5.3 assists per game and is second in the league in rebounds with 12.0 per game.

There you have it, the best basketball players in the NBA right now.
