As
March Madness rolls around, I’m NOT posting about how a team was
seeded or favorites to win. “Madness” is how the game was created in
1891.
In a mad rush, with a looming deadline, to “create a new game,” James
Naismith experienced torment and joy, rollercoaster emotions, the thin
line between celebrating and anguish.
All are now tournament hallmarks. Naismith was alive for the first NCAA
tournament in March 1939 but died just eight months later. He would be
astonished at what grew from his tiny Springfield, MA gym class in
1891. Here’s a link to the history of how, “Madness” IE Basketball,,
was created.
