March 10, 2020 - Round 21 MVP: Derek Needham (Mornar)

derek needhamWe have the MVP of the 21st round of the season and it is Mornar guard Derek Needham, for the second time this season. Needham dominated the court in Topolica Sports Hall in the game of his team against Krka. At the match of the 21st round between Mornar and Krka, Derek Needham achieved 12 points, 11 assists, 3 rebounds, 3 steals and a valuation of 27 in 30 minutes spent on court. He had the highest valuation of the round in the ABA League, together with Domagoj Vukovic and Muhammed Ahmed of Zadar. However, the fact that Derek Needham did not use his quality just to rise to the top of the statistical categories, but also helped his team to beat Krka, is what earned him the MVP of the round honour. Needham was also the top passer of ABA League Round 21. Important game is coming to Laktaši, where Igokea will be hosting Cibona and both teams need a victory badly in their battle of avoiding the danger zone near the bottom of the ABA League standings. Ahead of the Round 21, Igokea hold 7 wins in their hands and Cibona 6, while the last-placed Zadar have won 5 games so far. With just 3 rounds remaining in the regular season, it is quite clear why this match is so important for both sides. Crvena zvezda mts and Cedevita Olimpija will face each other on Sunday evening in Belgrade in the battle for the Playoffs! Crvena zvezda mts are not in a good rhythm as they have suffered several painful defeats over the past month. They lost the previous match in the ABA League against Mornar in the road, then they lost the Serbian National Cup final against their arch rivals Partizan NIS in a thrilling ending, while on top of that they have lost the previous 3 games in the EuroLeague. A big game is coming up in Belgrade on Saturday night, as FMP will be hosting Cedevita Olimpija in a battle of two of the most serious competitors for one of the four spots available in the ABA League Playoffs. And, we could argue that the game is coming in the right time for both squads. Both of them have been in some kind of a crisis lately, as both of them have won only 1 of their last five games and while FMP’s winless streak spans on 3 games, Cedevita Olimpija haven’t tasted the sweetness of a win for four rounds in a row. One of the most important big local derbies of Cibona and Zadar over the past couple of years is coming up, as the two powerhouses are about to beet in Zagreb. Rashawn Thomas has proven, throughout the month of December, his dominance at the ABA League courts wherever he has appeared and besides the fact that he finished the month amongst statistically the most efficient players, he deserved himself the award with his contribution to the team's success – Partizan NIS have all five of their games last month and established themselves a desired position at the very top of the ABA League standings. The excellent big man in the ranks of the Belgrade squad averaged 15 points, 6.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1 steal and a valuation of 22 during the games of Partizan NIS, which puts him on the second place in the rankings in valuation in the ABA League during the month of December, behind Kendrick Perry, but the latter one having not played a half of the games for his team, due to his late arrival to the competition. The excellent big man in the ranks of the Zagreb squad averaged 19.3 points, 4.8 rebounds, 0.8 assists and a valuation of 23.3 during the games of Cibona, which puts him on the first place in the rankings in valuation and points scored in the ABA League during the month of November. Another big ABA League clash is coming to the town of Bar and this time the fans will be able to enjoy nothing less than a local derby against Buducnost VOLI. Currently, the ABA League 2019-20 season runners-up are in a way better position in the standings, having won 7 out of their 8 games played so far in the ABA League season and are standing at the top of the standings, while Mornar are placed in the middle of the table with 50% record. It’s Partizan NIS against Cedevita Olimpija. When the two sides met for the first time this season, it was Partizan NIS that prevailed convincingly over Cedevita Olimpija, in the ABA Super Cup final in Zagreb.
