Attacking Full Court Press Man-to-Man with Big Boys! - Part 1
Here
is a good way for attacking a full court press with big boys 4 and
5. This play is a good surprise against a team that likes to play
a lot of full court press.
A good solid screen and a hand off - that is what it takes to make this play successful against full court press.
Practice this play every day for ten minutes and run
all the options. I believe this play will work very well for
teams that rely strongly on their point guard because 2 and 3 struggle
to advance the ball. This play provides options for you to avoid
players 2 and 3 from causing headaches and turnovers. As you see
players 2 and 3 are at the opposite basket at the wings letting player
1 advance the ball against X4 and X5.
Option One
Place players 4 and 5 at free throw line and players 2 and 3 at opposite basket at the wings.
Player 5 screens 4’s defender and pops out to the ballside.
Player 4 comes off the screen towards baseline to get the inbound pass from 1 then player 4 hands off to 1.
Quick Break: Player 1 dribbles down the court.
Player 2 cuts to opposite corner to allow player 1 all the way to the basket for lay-up.
Option Two
If player 4 cannot get the inbound pass then 1 passes to 5.
Player 4 screens 1’s defender.
Player 5 passes to 1 at mid-court.
Quick Break: player 1 pushes the ball down the court and passes to 3 then screens 2’s defender.
Player 2 cuts opposite corner to get the pass from 3.
Player 3 cuts to the basket.
Player 2 can shoot from the corner or reverse the ball to 3 for lay-up.
Option Three
This time 5 screens for 4 and rolls to baseline to get the inbound pass from 1.
Player 5 quickly looks for 4 at the wing.
Player 3 comes up to mid-court line to get the pass from 4.
Player 2 cuts opposite corner.
Player 3 goes all the way to the basket for lay-up.
Option Four
Player 4 pops out to ballside asking for ball.
Player 5 screens 4’s defender.
Player 4 comes off the screen toward baseline to get the inbound pass from 1.
Player 4 hands off to 1.
Player 1 dribbles down the court and looks to hand off to 3 at the wing.
Player 2 cuts to opposite corner.
Player 3 dribbles to the top of the key for a shot.
