Široki substantial,
Bosna disappointing
Subtitle: Bosna has broken their losing streak in their match against
FMP. Is this the end of their current crisis and finally a serious
change, or is it only a lucky start from their new coach Šehovac, we
will find out in the upcoming matches. Široki, after three losses,
managed to grab three wins, which gave them hope and will for reaching
their goal, which is the middle of the table, as they have mentioned
before the start of the season.

We have analyzed the games of the Bosnian representatives in the NLB
league. After eleven rounds, ‘Široki' stands pretty good, while
‘Bosna’, with nine defeats, is on the bottom of the table. We can say
that the present champions ‘Široki HT Eronet' have met the
expectations, while the former europian champions 'Bosna ASA BH
Telecom' have largely disappointed.
Culmination
in Zadar
With one defeat and one win, and after four first-team players left
(Đorđević, Rakić, Ikonić, Ovčina), the team from Sarajevo shows a lack
of confidence at the beginning of the season. But, based on their
success from the previous season (seventh place in the NLB league), and
by hiring players like Goran Bajić, Matija Češković, Zlatko Jovanović
and the young Mirza Sarajlija, the “students” promised good results.
Under the management of Coach Vlado Vukoičić, after the second round
and a win over Radnički, the disaster starts.
‘Bosna’ kept losing matches, from round to round. First, ‘Olimpija’
beat them, then ‘Cedevita’ and so on. The hiring of the new players
turned out to be a complete failure, and the high ambitions were left
behind the actual teams possibilities. The end of this crisis was
nowhere near, as the students kept sinking deeper and deeper. This
drama had no end, and as every drama has its culmination, this one
reached its peak on November 28th of the current year in Zadar. The
team from Sarajevo, without their first-team players Ivanović, Zimić,
Jovanović and the injured Šehović, were literally crushed in “Dom
Krešimira Ćosića” by an incredible 50 points difference (104 : 54).
Bad
Organization
Everyone was looking for the weakest link, but everyone was the weakest
link. Starting at the Management, to the bad organizational structure,
the failure to hire adequate new players and many other mistakes in the
whole system. Looking at the facts, the conclusion was that the team
from Sarajevo needed a thorough reconstruction. A few day after the
disastrous defeat from Zadar, Coach Vukoičić resigns, and a new head of
staff is named – Goran Šehovac, previously the managing assistant of
the team. Following eight consecutive defeats, ‘Bosna’ fought their way
towards their second victory in the season, under the command of the
new manager. The Students beat ‘FMP’ from Belgrade by 68 : 66. Is this
the end of their current crisis and finally a serious change, or is it
only a lucky start from their new coach Šehovac, we will find out in
the upcoming matches.
Reaching
the goal
The other Bosnian team in the regional league, “HKK Široki HT Eronet”,
eventually succedded in their intentions, after a bad start and three
losses, the team from Pecara seemed uncoordinated, but from round to
round, they showed why they are the present champions of Bosnia and
Herzegovina. 'Široki', after three losses, managed to grab three wins,
which gave them hope and will for reaching their goal, which is the
middle of the table, as they have mentioned before the start of the
season. Great competitiveness and a classy play under the rim gave a
result of five wins and six defeats, and they currently sit on the
ninth place of the table, gaining sixteen points, the same number as
fourth-placed Zadar gained.
Wondering what the secret recipe is? In ‘Široki', as opposed to
‘Bosna’, every function is in perfect condition. First of all, they
have an excellent organizational structure. Their Coach, Hrvoje Vlašić,
is doing a great job, and the acquiring of new players, like
Štemberger, turned out to be a jackpot. They strive to affirm
youngsters. ‘Široki' actually achieved the things that were maybe
expected from ‘Bosna’. They keep their heads high in the matches with
every opponent in the ‘league of the west Balkans’. ‘Široki' definitely
fulfilled all expectations, and they carry the Bosnian champions title
worthily.
