Neven Spahija resigns from Valencia!

In a surprise announcement on Monday, head coach Neven Spahija resigned from Power Electronics Valencia, the Eurocup champions, while indicating that he might yet coach in the Euroleague next season. On April 18, Spahija led Valencia to the Eurocup title and an automatic spot in the Euroleague by defeating Alba Berlin 44-67 in the competition's title game. Read more here.

Valencia is Eurocup king!!!

Power Electronics Valencia is the Eurocup champion for the second time in club history. Power Electronics became the second club to lift the Eurocup trophy twice on Sunday when it beat Alba Berlin 44-67 in the title game in Vitoria, Spain. With the victory, Valencia earned the right to play in the 2010-11 Euroleague. Valencia, the competition's original champion back in 2003, set a new Eurocup final record by allowing just 22 points in the first half. Pushed by a sea a orange and purple fans, Valencia used outstanding defense to seal the outcome long before the final buzzer and denied Alba the chance to win its first European club title since 1995. Matt Nielsen was named Eurocup Finals MVP and his frontcourt mate, Kosta Perovic, paced the winners with 17 points. Head coach Neven Spahija, who has lifted five different domestic league trophies all over the continent and reached the ULEB Cup final in 2003, won his first European title - just like every player on his team's roster. The second and last night of quarterfinals on Wednesday decided all four teams going to the Eurocup Finals on April 17 and 18 in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain! The first was Alba Berlin, a 72-59 home winner against Hapoel Jerusalem to take their series by 7 points. Derrick Byars scored 16 for Alba. The second was Bilbao, which advanced despite a 46-52 home loss to Nymburk in which Arthur Lee had 12 points for the guests. Bilbao, which had won their first game by 12 points, got 12 from Marko Banic. Again despite a loss, the third semifinalist was Panellinios, which fell 75-68 at Gran Canaria but advanced on the strength of its 11-point victory in Game 1. Rod Blakney scored 15 for Panellinios. The fourth and final spot in the Eurocup Finals went to Valencia, whose 85-67 victory over visiting Aris behind Thomas Kelati's 18 points made it the only team to win its quarterfinal series in a sweep. The semifinals on April 17 will be: Alba vs. Bilbao and Valencia vs. Panellinios.

Barcelona, March 4 , 2010. Tickets for the Eurocup Finals will go on sale starting on Thursday, March 4 at noon . This year's edition of the new-format Eurocup Finals will be played in Vitoria, Spain from April 17 to 18 at the magnificent Fernando Buesa Arena, which is the home arena of the Euroleague Basketball club Caja Laboral and has a capacity of 9,342 spectators. Tickets will be available through www.eurocupbasketball.com , which will take you to a special ticketing platform site with all the relevant information for final purchase. Ticket prices for these exciting two days of competition will range between €75 and €130 for each four-game package, which includes the semifinals on Saturday, April 17, plus the third-place game and final on Sunday, April 18.
