April 8, 2017 - Regular Season Round 30 MVP: Latavious Williams, Unics Kazan

latavious williamsThe final game of the 2016-17 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Regular Season will be one that Latavious Williams remembers well. The Unics Kazan big man shredded his previous personal bests to lead his team to a road win and lay claim to MVP honors for Round 30. Williams set career highs with 20 points, 8-of-9 shooting, 2 steals and a performance index rating of 34 in a 68-91 rout of host EA7 Emporio Armani Milan. His index rating was the highest of any player in Round 30. Williams also made all 4 of his free throws and blocked a shot in an astounding performance. The player with the most weekly MVP nods this season, Nando De Colo of CSKA Moscow, was the runner-up for Round 30. De Colo led CSKA Moscow to a 90-86 home win over Olympiacos Piraeus with 23 points, 6 assists and 3 steals for an index rating of 31. It marked the sixth time in just 23 games played that the reigning MVP had an index rating in the 30s. Read more here.





April 6, 2017 - Round 30

The 30th and final round of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Regular Season arrives with most positions in the standings still to be decided, including all-important fourth place. That's not to mention the last available playoff place coming down to a do-or-die Game of the Week on Round 30's last night, Friday! bradley wanamakerDarussafaka Dogus Istanbul guard Brad Wanamaker pulled out his greatest Turkish Airlines EuroLeague performance to date on Thursday to keep his team's playoff chances alive. In so doing, he earned the MVP honor for Round 29 of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Regular Season. Wanamaker scored 8 of his career-high and club-record 30 points in overtime as Darussafaka edged his former team, Brose Bamberg, by 97-99. He made 4 of 8 shots from behind the arc and recorded 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 2 steals in compiling a performance index rating of 34, the highest of the round. Wanamaker narrowly edged teammate Will Clyburn for that distinction after the forward starred with 26 points on 9-of-14 shooting from the floor plus 7 rebounds. The penultimate week of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Regular Season delivers some great games in Round 29, including a high-powered Game of the Week. Among Thursday’s clashes, Anadolu Efes Istanbul’s win guaranteed that Olympiacos Piraeus will finish third, while Darussafaka Dogus Istanbul’s overtime victory ensure that its race for the final open playoff berth will go to Round 30 when it hosts Crvena Zvezda mts Belgrade in a win-or-go-home contest.

March 25, 2017 - Regular Season Round 28 MVP: Anthony Randolph, Real Madrid

anthony randolphDo-it-all Anthony Randolph came through with a rousing performance to lead Real Madrid to a 73-79 road win at Olympiacos Piraeus on Friday night. So it was only natural that he would be the MVP for Round 28 of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Regular Season. Randolph not only posted big numbers with a season-high 21 points and 4 blocks, but his performance index rating of 30 was the highest among all players in the round. The athletic forward was extremely efficient on offense with only 2 missed shots, while making all 4 of his free throws in the final minute to help seal the win. Randolph also collected 5 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal to earn the third MVP of the round honor for his EuroLeague career. The reigning EuroLeague MVP, Nando De Colo of CSKA Moscow, starred in his team’s 74-85 road win at Unics Kazan with the second-highest index rating of the round, 29. Read more here.





March 23, 2017 - Round 28

The action continues thick and fast with the second round of fixtures in a week, as an Istanbul derby pits together Anadolu Efes and Fenerbahce on Thursday. Another big battle comes from northern Spain, with Panathinaikos Superfoods Athens travelling to Baskonia Vitoria Gasteiz. On Friday, an all-Russian affair will see Unics Kazan attempt to upset visiting CSKA Moscow, and a true heavyweight battle will see Olympiacos Piraeus play host to Real Madrid.

March 23, 2017 - Regular Season Round 27 MVP: Sergio Llull, Real Madrid

sergio llullSergio Llull added to a spectacular campaign Wednesday by leading Real Madrid to an 85-69 victory over archrival FC Barcelona Lassa and in the process claiming the title as MVP for Round 27 of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Regular Season. Llull collected his second MVP of the round this season after torching Barcelona for 21 points and 6 assists in el Clasico. He made 3 of 5 two-point shots, 4 of 7 from behind the arc and was perfect on 3 free throws in setting a career-high with a performance index rating of 32, which was also the highest of any player in Round 27. For the second consecutive round, Jayson Granger of Anadolu Efes Istanbul is the runner-up in the MVP count. Granger starred in a 68-76 road win at Zalgiris Kaunas with 25 points, 8 assists and a performance index rating of 30. All-EuroLeague guard Milos Teodosic of CSKA Moscow was on top of his game with the third-highest index rating of the round, 29, in a 95-85 victory over Darussafaka Dogus Istanbul. March 21, 2017 - Round 27

The Regular Season's final double-week tips off on Tuesday and Wednesday with a batch of key match-ups, including a Clasico Game of the Week which could prove decisive for both teams. First up, Fenerbahce (17-9) welcomes Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv (9-17) to Istanbul looking for a victory which would secure a place in the playoffs. Despite their respective records Maccabi has outperformed the host in several statistical categories, including points per game (78.9 to 77.1) and rebounding (34.5 to 32.0), but the Israeli team needs to take better care of the ball after committing the second highest number of turnovers in the competition (14.4 per game).

paulius jankunasAfter 258 games played in the continent's premier basketball competition, Zalgiris Kaunas big man Paulius Jankunas has achieved another first by becoming MVP for Round 26 of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Regular Season. Jankunas led the Lithuanian champs to an 80-82 road win at Unics Kazan with 21 points and 7 rebounds to keep the team's playoff hopes alive. His performance index rating of 30 was the highest of all players in the round. Jankunas made 5 of 9 two-pointers, 1 of 2 shots from downtown and converted all 8 of his trips to the foul line, including 2 late free throws to give his team a two-possession lead that all but sealed the outcome. He also dished 3 assists and blocked 1 shot in a tremendous performance. Jankunas becomes the first Zalgiris player to win an MVP of the round honor this season. Playoff places, home-court advantage and avoiding elimination are the prizes on offer in an action-packed Round 26 of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Regular Season, which ends with the reigning champion hit the road for the Game of the Week. The action starts in Istanbul, where Anadolu Efes (13-12) will look to protect its position in the top half of the standings against a Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv (9-16) team that has lost seven straight on the road and would be eliminated with another defeat.

Nando De Colo captured the honor as MVP of Round 25 of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Regular Season after leading CSKA Moscow to a playoff berth-clinching 85-69 victory over Galatasaray Odeabank Istanbul Thursday. De Colo recorded 22 points and 4 steals for a performance index rating of 26, which was the highest of any player on a winning team. He was perfect from the free throw line in 8 trips and collected 3 rebounds, 2 assists and 8 fouls drawn. The highest index rating for the round came from Brad Wanamaker of Darussafaka Dogus Istanbul, which came up short 81-73 at Olympiacos Piraeus. Wanamaker tallied 23 points and 6 assists in posting a 29 index rating. Round 25 of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Regular Season delivers a set of tantalising match-ups, including a repeat fixture from last season's Final Four and a Game of the Week between traditional powers aiming for playoff positions. Fresh from upsetting one table-topper, Galatasaray Odeabank Istanbul (8-16) has the chance to overcome another with a trip to CSKA Moscow (18-6), which would qualify for the playoffs with a win. The game will feature the league's strongest offense against the fourth-weakest defense, with CSKA averaging 87.8 points per game while Galatasaray has conceded 83.2. But it's also a match-up between the competition's best long-range shooting teams, with CSKA's three-point conversion rate of 41.2% closely followed by Galatasaray's 39.9%.

kim tillieWith his team needing to get back on the winning track in a tight Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Playoffs race, Kim Tillie had perfect timing for a career-night and close-to-perfect performance. The Baskonia Vitoria Gasteiz forward gave his side a huge boost in 87-74 win over EA7 Emporio Armani Milan, and in the process earned his first-ever MVP of honor for Round 24. Tillie finished with a career-high 19 points, making 4 of 5 two-point shots and a perfect 3 of 3 from three-point distance. That single missed two-point shot was the only negative in Tillie's stat line. He also made both of his free throw attempts, pulled down 5 rebounds, stole 3 balls, matched his career-best with 3 assists, and drew a pair of fouls. He had no personal fouls, turnovers or blocks against, accumulating a career-high performance index rating of 31, which also shattered his previous best of 21. Two players – Derrick Brown of Anadolu Efes Istanbul and Chris Singleton of Panathinaikos Superfoods Athens – were just one index point behind Tillie, sharing the second-best PIR of Round 24. Crucial clashes abound in Round 24 of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Regular Season, including a Game of the Week which will pit together two of the league’s hottest teams, while the reigning champions travel to face a perennial power in desperate need of a win. February 28, 2017 - Turkish Airlines EuroLeague MVP for February: Thomas Heurtel, Anadolu Efes Istanbul

thomas heurtelIn a short but pivotal month of February, no Turkish Airlines EuroLeague team made a bigger move in the standings by beating direct competitors than Anadolu Efes Istanbul. And no player was more instrumental in his team's perfect record this month than Efes playmaker Thomas Heurtel, who is EuroLeague Basketball's choice for MVP of February. With Heurtel averaging a double-double off the bench, Efes defeated two higher-placed teams among its three February wins to jump from just outside the playoff zone to solidly inside it. He was the driving force that made Efes the EuroLeague's best team this month in both scoring and assists, not only leading his team in points, but setting up his teammates with one great pass after another. In so doing, Efes overtook two key competitors for the playoffs and is breathing down the neck of a third. nando de coloThe CSKA Moscow attack was back in peak form on Thursday night and at the center of it all was reigning EuroLeague MVP Nando De Colo, who came within 1 point of his career high in snagging MVP honors for Round 23 of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Regular Season. De Colo became the first player to capture the MVP of the round honor four times this season as he posted 29 points in a 93-81 victory over Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv. He made 7 of 10 two-pointers, 2 of 5 from downtown and all 9 of his free throws in addition to delivering 3 assists and collecting 1 steal. All that equalled a performance index rating of 35, which was the highest among all players in Round 23. The second-highest rating was 32, achieved by two players from Zalgiris Kaunas in the Lithuanian team's thrilling 86-91 victory at Brose Bamberg. Read more here.

The action returns following the bye week as the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Regular Season heads into the final stretch, with Round 23 showcasing a Game of the Week between two strong title contenders, while several more playoffs hopefuls face virtual do-or-die encounters. Second-placed CSKA Moscow (16-6) will get the ball in the air in Thursday's home meeting with resurgent Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv (8-14), which has revived its faint playoff ambitions by winning two of its last three games. georgios printezisTwo-time EuroLeague champion Georgios Printezis of Olympiacos Piraeus rose to the top yet again this week to lead the Reds to a tough victory and to claim MVP honors for Round 22 of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Regular Season. Printezis recorded his first double-double of the season in helping Olympiacos beat Zalgiris Kaunas 73-64 at Peace and Friendship Stadium. The veteran forward amassed 17 points and 10 rebounds, which were both game-highs, to compile a performance index rating of 30, which was the highest of the round. He made 4 of 7 two-point shots and 3 of 4 three-pointers in addition to collecting 2 assists and 2 steals to become the first weekly MVP for Olympiacos this season. Another two-time champion narrowly missed what would have been his first weekly MVP as Nikita Kurbanov of CSKA Moscow enjoyed a perfect shooting night in setting a career-high with an index rating of 29 in his team's 102-80 rout of Crvena Zvezda mts Belgrade. And Derrick Brown stepped up once again with a monster game. Brown spearheaded the Efes attack in its 72-86 victory over Crvena Zvezda mts Belgrade with a double-double to earn MVP honors for Round 21 of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Regular Season. Brown totaled 20 points, 11 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals for a performance index rating of 33, which was the highest of any player in the round. This is the second time this season and third in his career that Brown has claimed MVP of the round honors. With two of Olympiacos Piraeus’s top scorers injured, the Reds were going to need someone to step to get a win on the road Thursday. That someone was Erick Green, who poured in a season-high 25 points in a 75-90 road win at Unics Kazan. Green made 7 of 8 two-point shots, 3 of 5 three-pointers and converted both of his free throw tries in compiling a career-high performance index rating of 31, which was the second-highest for the round. The race for the playoffs intensifies as Round 21 delivers a series of unmissable match-ups, including a repeat of last season's Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Championship Game, an all-Spanish shoot-out and a red-hot challenger aiming for its eighth straight win. In the first tip-off, Unics Kazan (7-13) will look to revive its playoff ambitions by snapping a three-game losing streak against visiting Olympiacos Piraeus (14-6). ognjen kuzmicAs though defeating the last two Turkish Airlines EuroLeague champions to end 2016 was not enough, Crvena Zvezda mts Belgrade established its longest winning streak ever in the competition with a perfect run of five more victories to start 2017. And now, the club has added another milestone: its first MVP of the Month, none other than center Ognjen Kuzmic. As victory after victory in January catapulted Zvezda into the conversation about Final Four contenders, Kuzmic was the team's defensive anchor and go-to performer down the stretch again and again. A parade of big-name clubs ran smack into a wall as Zvezda's defense held Zalgiris Kaunas, Fenerbahce Istanbul, Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv, Baskonia Vitoria Gasteiz and Panathinaikos Superfoods Athens to an average of just 67.2 points. For his role in making Brose Bamberg one of those resurgent teams, forward Nicolo Melli has been chosen by EuroLeague Basketball as the MVP for December. His selection is Melli's second as MVP of the month, following the award he won in November of 2015. Although last month started like much of Bamberg's season until then, with a buzzer-beater leading to its sixth loss by 4 points or less, Bamberg got up off the canvas to win four of its last five games in December with Melli as the team's leader. Teodosic, who delivered the 1,000th assist of his storied career early in the game, finished with a career-high 34 points plus 10 assists to lead the champs to a 112-84 victory over Baskonia Vitoria Gasteiz. His performance index rating of 43 was the highest in the EuroLeague this season and the second-best in CSKA’s illustrious history. A clash between recent winners and a meeting of two of last season's Final Four teams are among the highlights as the action continues in Round 9 of the Turkish Airlines Euroleague Regular Season. The first tip-off comes from Istanbul, where Anadolu Efes (3-5) and Crvena Zvezda mts Belgrade (4-4) will look to boost their push for playoff position. The key to the game will be whether Efes's free-scoring offense, ranked fourth in the league with an average of 86 points and first in offensive rebounds (15.5 per game), will overcome the stubborn resistance of Zvezda's defense, which has allowed fewer points (71.8 per game) than any other team.

Pleiss scored 22 points on 10-of-14 shooting, grabbed 8 rebounds and blocked 3 shots for a performance index rating of 28, which was the highest among all players from winning teams in Round 8. In a sign of his dominance, Galatasaray outscored Darussafaka Dogus Istanbul by 14 in the minutes Pleiss played, but was outscored by 10 when he sat. Galatasaray won the game 85-81. The highest index rating for the week came from Zalgiris Kaunas big man Paulius Jankunas, whose 37 was both the second-highest of his career and the second-best in the EuroLeague this season. Llull made 4 of 6 threes and dished 4 assists in the win that brought his side within one victory of first place. The player with the highest index rating for the week was another point guard, Shane Larkin of Baskonia Vitoria Gasteiz. The games continue to come thick and fast as the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague enters its second double-header week of fixtures, with Round 7's action taking place on Tuesday and Wednesday. First up, Anadolu Efes Istanbul (2-4) hosts an Unics Kazan team (2-4) looking to make it three wins in a row. Inside dominance could be pivotal: Efes ranks second in the league in total rebounds, averaging 39, while Unics is placed third in offensive boards (13.2 per game). CSKA Moscow superstar Nando De Colo captured his second such title in Round 6 after leading the champs to a 91-90 victory over 2015 champion Real Madrid on Friday in the Russian capital. De Colo had another fantastic shooting night as he amassed 28 points and a performance index rating of 35, which was the highest among all players in Round 6, fourth-best in the EuroLeague all season and just 1 off his career high. De Colo made 3 of 4 three-pointers, was perfect on 9 trips to the foul line and dished 6 assists. The weekly runner-up for the MVP honor was forward Chris Singleton of Panathinaikos Superfoods Athens. Singleton posted an index rating of 34 in the Greens’ 83-75 overtime victory over Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv. Singleton set career-highs in both index rating and scoring with 26 points. Both a reigning champion and a former MVP of the competition, Teodosic found new ways to make magic in October as CSKA won its four games by an average of 13 points. To say only that Teodosic leads the league in assists with 9.5 per game is to understate just how unique and creative many of them have been. Few players have the vision to even try such passes, let alone make them arrive with pin-point accuracy to grateful teammates, as Teodosic did throughout October. Udoh starred by tying his EuroLeague best with 21 points and setting a career-high with 13 rebounds to lead Fenerbahce to an 87-103 road win and claim the honor of MVP for Round 4. Udoh’s performance index rating of 31 was the highest of any player on a winning team for Round 4. Udoh made 8 of 12 two-point shots, collected 6 offensive rebounds and added 2 assists and 1 steal in an impressive effort. The highest index rating not only of Round 4, but of the season so far came from Keith Langford of Unics Kazan, who recorded a 40 in his team’s 98-80 loss at CSKA Moscow. The 2016-17 Turkish Airlines Euroleague Regular Season offers no breaks as Round 4 becomes the first in the history of the competition that is not the sole round played in the same week. The new format of the Turkish Airlines Euroleague takes hold in earnest this week with the first "double-header" of fixtures – all teams playing two games each two nights apart – as the continent's top teams prepare for Round Three of the new season on Tuesday and Wednesday. The action starts on Tuesday as Unics Kazan (0-2) goes in search of its first win of the season at home against Darussafaka Dogus Istanbul (1-1) in the first meeting ever between the teams. The host is ranked 14th in the league in scoring, but could find a route to victory in the battle of the boards: Unics is tied for the second-most rebounds in the league (76), while Darussafaka is rock bottom in that department (55). Not only did he lead his team to a thrilling 99-97 victory over his former team, Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv, but he earned MVP honors for Regular Season Round 1 in the process. Hickman sparkled with 22 points, 3 assists and 3 steals for a performance index rating of 32, which was the most among all players on winning teams in Round 1. He made 2 of 3 shots from downtown and 12 of 15 free throws after drawing 12 fouls. He didn’t just produce in volume. Hickman came up big with the game on the line by scoring his team’s final 11 points over the last 2:40 to secure the victory. The player with the highest index rating of opening week was on the losing end in that game; Andrew Goudelock led Maccabi’s comeback and finished the game with 27 points, 5 assists and an index rating of 33.
