The 76th edition of the NBA is right around the corner, and the NBA
draft 2022 is scheduled to be held on June 23, 2022 at Barclays Center.
Previously, going into the draft was relatively an easy decision for
athletes. But now, it’ll be more complicated as college athletes can
reap lucrative benefits by staying in college.
There’s uncertainty around the NBA draft 2022 and teams are yet to make
any decisions on prospects. However, as we move forward and time
closes, we’ll get clarity on the team’s decisions and their draft
choices. One thing is for sure, the players’ choice of staying in
college or turning into a pro will affect this draft.
Nevertheless, the following are some of the top prospects you need to
look out for in this year’s NBA draft.
Jabari Smith Jr.
A 6’10” freshman of Auburn might be the next big thing. He’s arguably
the best freshman jump shooter at the moment and has an incredible base
combined with lethal offensive skills. One of the youngest prospects,
Jabari has a bright future in front of him and undoubtedly, he’ll be
the first pick in the upcoming drafts.
Jabari is a capable athlete with a wide array of moves and, most
importantly, he doesn’t rely on dribbles to score. His potential of
becoming an All-Star depends on the team that picks him because he will
bring strength and strong physicality to the team. Therefore, a team
needs to have strong support around him.
Paolo Banchero
Paolo is equipped with size, skill, and versatility, and with time,
he’ll improve. He has the potential to be an incredible player and
become an All-Star if all things work out for him. Paolo has struggled
in the conference play, but his dangerous offensive skills are no
secret to anyone.
There’s a holdup in his high jumpers in tight places and a concern over
his defensive abilities. However, his presence in a team will be
productive for teammates. He has pace and can create mismatches due to
his strength.
Chet Holmgren
Chet might be the best defensive prospect going into the draft. The
seven-footer is exceptional at blocking the shot, protecting the
basket, handling the ball, and making the play. There are not many
players that can do all of that.
Chet might lack offensive skills, but his value comes on the defensive
end, protecting the rim. Because he’s not strongly built, there are
concerns over his ability to translate his skills into a game. These
concerns shouldn’t affect him so much, as he is a versatile player with
average offensive skills, making him a strong top prospect.
Jaden Ivey
Jaden will be potentially the number one pick as a guard in this draft.
His playing style suits the NBA way of playing. He is fast and strong
and can take over games.
However, there are certain concerns over his weak left hand, passing,
handling of the ball, and his selfish play, but he still is someone
that any team would love to have onboard. The abilities he possesses
are fantastic and as the draft gets closer, he will rise as a top
choice.
Johnny Davis
A sophomore from Wisconsin, Davis is an all-rounder. His
competitiveness and remarkable midfield game make him a top prospect.
As a team, you need a selfless player, who on bad shooting nights still
makes plays, defends smartly, and is efficient with the ball. Davis is
certainly that type of player.
He will keep on improving and eventually will be a consistent
three-point shooter. He’s someone who will command the NBA odds.
